Genesis was founded on November 4, 2015 as an independent brand of the Hyundai Motor Group – the first luxury division of a South Korean automobile manufacturer. In May 2021, Genesis launched in the European market and has since positioned itself as an alternative to established premium brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus.

The Genesis Brand
Genesis follows a clear naming scheme: sedans carry the designation "G" (G70, G80, G90), while SUVs are labeled "GV" (GV60, GV70, GV80). Electric variants receive the "Electrified" suffix.
